According to local historians, Dekle Beach was acquired and developed sometime in the mid-1940s by Gus J. Dekle, a businessman and politician from Perry, Florida.
He owned Dekle Motor Company, a local Chevrolet dealership, served on Perry’s City Council, and was a member of the Florida House of Representatives during the 1940s and 1950s.
